TRACK #450:
Halloween by Tyte Stone
We’re gonna ring in the New Year, as it were, with another Heavy Metal Halloween, and a final entry in our totally unintentional, but seemingly fully planned, international block.
This one comes from The Playground of Europe, which is what they call Swirtzerland apparently, on account of the skiing I guess. OK.
And it comes from the band Tyte Stone, which according to Google Translate means “Tyte Stone.” Nice.
The album it comes from is 1991’s Im Jahre Des Schafes, which according to Google Translate doesn’t mean “Im Jahre Des Schafes,” but In the Year of the Sheep. Interestingly 1991 was, in the Chinese Zodiac, the year of the sheep, so they got that goin for them.
Now, from what I could gather, Tyte Stone appears to be the clownin’ type. I don’t think I’d call them a joke band, they’re not like Lonely Island or Tenacious D or anything, but maybe more like a Primus? I’m not sure how they’re perceived in their homeland and what the proper analog here in the states would be, but they get silly with it.
That doesn’t seem to be what’s happening here though with tonight’s inclusion. With Halloween, Tyte Stone is offering up a solid Heavy Metal Halloween that doesn’t sound jokey. It might very well be, I can’t rightly make out the lyrics and I couldn’t find them online.
Best as I can figure, our humble narrator is wandering around the city at night. Perhaps on Halloween, but he later says whatever it is is “like Halloween” so I gotta assume it’s any one of the other 364 days.
Seems he gets enchanted, or hypnotized by a witch-like women, who drags him to a dark room where some magic type shit starts happening. I dunno. It’s hard to fully suss out. He appeared to be trapped there and starts begging for someone to come and free him. Then he likens the experience to Halloween.
I guess he got out. Cause in the last verse, he seems to suggest he never lived to see another night like that, full of magic and mystery, and he’s glad it’s over. Then, his Jerry Springer final thought appears to be that he’ll never go out on Halloween again. Dunno what he says exactly, or if it’s even that, but it appears to be, which is confusing a little. Is it like Halloween, or was it Halloween? Or was the experience so much like Halloween you’ve sworn off actual Halloween for the rest of your day? Unclear to me, but I’m sure some official lyrics could sort us all out pretty handedly. Oh well.
So, is this a Halloween song or what? Well, it’s titled Halloween, so yes, in the most literal sense, it absolutely is. They talked about Halloweeny kinds of things and they certainly say Hallloween enough, so I think it’s a safe bet.
Was it a good tune to close out the season? I mean, I think so. It’s been in the bullpen for a while now and you know we love shutting it down with some Heavy Metal Halloween.
But like a lot of things around here, that’s for you to decide. We now have 450 tracks for you to use in your Halloween festivities, and we’ll be back next year to bring you 30 more seasonal tunes that maybe you’re not getting to hear anywhere else.
We appreciate you hanging out around here this October. It’s what this place was built for and we hope it’s made your Hallow-month just a little bit more festive.
